About the project

Niya Pushkarova is an artist and a curator who combines painting, video making and performance. Iptisam Falah Hasan (Iraq) has lived in Bulgaria for 10 years and is an undergraduate student in Interior Design and Painting at the New Bulgarian University.

Fine art is the main mean of expression through which Iptisam and Niya learn more about each other and their countries. Their work “Henna-Bread” is a story about their acquaintance and the similarities they find in their cultures.

About the exhibition

Art is a universal language that does not recognise boundaries. It brings us closer together making us open our eyes to the beauty and diversity of the world through the inspiration it shares from different cultures.

The online exhibition “Beyond Differences” is an initiative of the UN Refugee Agency on the occasion of the World Refugee Day on 20 June. It exhibits the joint artworks of artists from Bulgaria, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan.

Nikolina and Kimia, Ivelina and Amjad Djad, Niya and Iptisam, Svetli and Bewar, Radina and Ali, Boyana and Silsila were involved in this creative interaction in order to produce joint artworks inspired by the diversity of various cultures.
